How we rate cruise-port hotels

Every hotel on this site is scored against the same six-factor yardstick:

1. Distance to cruise terminal — Walking access, shuttle availability, taxi/Uber timing
2. Luggage handling — Early check-in, hold-bags-during-day, port-day drop-off
3. Breakfast windows — Early enough to match embarkation timing (some need 6 AM)
4. Late check-out flexibility — For return-day travelers landing in port and waiting for evening flights
5. Sail-away view — Rooftop, port-facing rooms, or balcony with ship views (bonus, not required)
6. Value for the night — Price relative to alternatives in the same area

Properties scoring 5/6 or 6/6 make our “Top picks.” Properties at 3/6 or below don’t make the list.

Tips for booking pre-cruise hotels

Always arrive at least one night before sailing. Two nights if you’re flying internationally or transferring through hubs known for delays.
